Put God First in All We Do and Say

A man in church preaching and holding up the bible.

The very first Commandment is to “Love the Lord, our God with All Our Hearts.” Scriptures emphasize the importance of putting God first in all aspects of our lives—what we do, say, and give. This prioritization reflects our trust, obedience, and love for Him. Below are scriptures, declarations, and a prayer to guide you in this principle.

We Must Seek First God's Kingdom.
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

When we prioritize God’s will and righteousness, He promises to meet our needs.

We Must Acknowledge God in All We Do.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

Trusting and acknowledging God in every decision allows Him to guide us on the right path.

We Must Love God Above All Else
Deuteronomy 6:5 (KJV)"And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

Loving God wholeheartedly means He becomes our priority in every area of life.

We Must Put God Before Wealth
Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV) "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine."

Giving God the first and best of our resources honors Him and reflects our trust in His provision.

We Must Be Fully Devoted to God
Matthew 22:37-38 (NLT)"Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment."

Our devotion to God should involve every part of our being—our emotions, will, and intellect.

We Must Prioritize God  in Service and All We Do.

Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

All we do should be done with a mindset of serving and honoring God first.

We Must Trust in God's Plan
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Trusting God’s plan means placing His priorities above our own, knowing He has our best interest at heart.

Declarations:

  • "I declare that I will seek first God's kingdom and righteousness in all I do, trusting Him to provide for my needs. (Matthew 6:33 NIV)"

  • "I acknowledge God in all my ways and trust Him to direct my paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)"

  • "I honor the Lord with my wealth, giving Him my first and best. (Proverbs 3:9 NIV)"

  • "I love the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength, putting Him first in every area of my life. (Matthew 22:37-38 NIV)"

  • "Whatever I do, I do it wholeheartedly for the Lord, knowing He is my ultimate reward. (Colossians 3:23-24 NIV)"

  • "I declare that God’s plans for my life are good, and I trust Him completely. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)"

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart desiring to put You first in all things. Teach me to seek Your kingdom and righteousness above all else, trusting that You will provide for my every need. Help me to acknowledge You in all my ways, leaning not on my own understanding but allowing You to guide my steps. Lord, I surrender my time, my words, my resources, and my decisions to You, knowing that You are worthy of my first and best. May my life be a reflection of wholehearted devotion to You, and may everything I do be for Your glory. Thank You for the promise of Your plans, which are good and full of hope. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

By putting God first in all we do, we align ourselves with His purposes and experience His blessings, peace, and guidance in every aspect of our lives.
