Put on the Belt of Truth
Have you ever told a lie and then found yourself telling more lies to keep the first one hidden? It feels like you're trapped, constantly worried that the truth will come out. The fear of getting caught builds, and worse, your character and trustworthiness take a hit. On the flip side, have you ever admitted to doing something wrong? You might have faced some consequences at the moment, but the issue is resolved much quicker. Think back to when you were a kid—maybe you confessed to breaking a rule and got a punishment, like a timeout or losing a privilege. It wasn’t fun, but it was over quickly, and life moved on. Lies, on the other hand, require constant upkeep, dragging you into a life of stress and uncertainty, always looking over your shoulder.
In John 8:32 (NIV), Jesus says, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." This suggests that knowing and living by God's truth liberates us from sin, deception, and spiritual bondage.
The theme of "truth" runs throughout the Bible, showing the consequences of deception and the rewards of honesty. The Bible even goes so far as to equate Jesus Christ with truth itself. In John 14:6 (NKJV), Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life," emphasizing that truth is not merely a concept but a person—Jesus Christ. The Bible presents God as the ultimate source of truth, making it clear that living in truth is living in alignment with Him.
Since Jesus is truth then the devil must be deception or lies. The devil is often portrayed as a deceiver who tries to lead people away from God. In 2 Corinthians 11:14 (NIV), Paul warns, "And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." This shows that the devil can disguise himself as something good and true to mislead people. In John 8:44 (KJV), Paul warns, “for he (the devil) is a liar and the father of lies.” . His tactics include twisting the truth, appealing to human desires, and disguising himself as something good to ensnare people in sin.
To live a life aligned with God’s promises, we must make truth our foundation and reject all forms of deception. Lies may seem easier at the moment, but they lead to a life of turmoil and broken trust. On the other hand, living honestly not only strengthens our character but also brings us closer to God and His blessings. By committing to truth, we invite His guidance, protection, and favor into our lives, ensuring that our path is one of victory and integrity. Let truth be the light that guides your steps, and let honesty pave the way for a life of genuine peace and success.
