Created to Rule Over Creation

A thorned crown on a bible.

From the very beginning, God entrusted us with a remarkable responsibility: to rule over His creation. In Genesis 1:28, we read, "God blessed them and said to them, 'Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.'" This verse reveals the incredible authority and stewardship God gave to humanity, empowering us to care for and manage the earth and all its creatures.

God designed us to have dominion over our environments, to nurture, protect, and wisely manage the resources He has provided. This dominion isn’t about domination, but about loving care and responsible oversight. Every day, we are given the opportunity to honor God by how we interact with the world around us—whether it's through caring for the environment, loving the people we influence, or managing the resources entrusted to us.

However, to rule well over our domains, we must align our hearts with God's will, remembering that we are caretakers of His creation. Psalm 8:6 further reminds us of this truth: "You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet." This authority is not just about physical creation but extends to every area of our lives—our families, our communities, and even our personal choices. We are stewards of our thoughts, words, and actions, called to bring God's order, love, and wisdom into every situation.

But how do we truly rule over our domains? We do so by seeking God’s guidance in every decision and acknowledging that He is the ultimate King. As we surrender our hearts to Him, we rule not from selfish ambition, but with a heart that reflects God's love for His creation. Our authority comes from Him, and our success in ruling comes from our obedience to His will.

Declaration:

  1. “Lord, I thank You for entrusting me with authority over my domain. Help me to rule with wisdom, love, and responsibility, as I care for the people, resources, and opportunities You have given me.”

  2. “I commit to align my heart with Yours, recognizing that my authority comes from You. Help me bring order, peace, and abundance to the areas of my life where You have placed me.”

  3. “I declare that I will walk in the authority You have given me, stewarding every blessing well and giving You glory in all I do.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting me with the responsibility to rule over creation. Help me to reflect Your heart in the way I care for the world and those around me. Guide me to be a wise and loving steward of all that You have given me authority over. May I honor You in my decisions, and may my life reflect Your order and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We were created to rule, not in our own strength, but with God’s wisdom and love. Let us remember that each day is an opportunity to manage the gifts and resources God has entrusted to us, and in doing so, we fulfill a key part of our purpose. Genesis 1:28 serves as a reminder that ruling over creation is part of our calling, and with God’s guidance, we can bring His kingdom to every corner of our lives.
