A True and Intimate Love Story
In His letter to the church in Pergamum, Jesus commends the believers for holding fast to His name despite residing "where Satan's throne is" (Revelation 2:13, ESV). This indicates that their government was in direct opposition to God's laws. To those who overcome, He promises a white stone with a new name inscribed, known only to the recipient (Revelation 2:17, ESV).
The white stone's significance can be understood through historical context. In ancient times, victors of athletic competitions were awarded a white stone, granting them access to special banquets. Similarly, in legal settings, a white stone could symbolize acquittal.
