Winding Down From the Busy Christmas Celebrations

The day following Christmas finds us winding down. Some of us may feel let down now that all the joyful events are over. Weeks of preparation for one special day have passed, and it feels like it’s all over. Others gear up to store decorations for another year, clean house, and prepare for a new year full of possibilities and adventures.

As we prepare for the new year, what kind of resolutions are we making? Many of us may set goals to lose weight and practice healthier habits. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own” (1 Corinthians 6:19, NIV). Some seek to advance in their careers, find a new job, or become better

A serene moment of reflection and gratitude is captured as decorations are gently placed on the tree, symbolizing the peace that follows the joyous celebrations.

stewards of their finances. “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5, NIV).

As we reflect on the past, let us ensure that we look back with gratitude for how the Lord has guided us. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1, NIV).

Let’s start the New Year by asking Daddy God what He wants us to do. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3, NIV). He wants us to be leaders in our everyday lives. “You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13-14, NIV).

We are to be the ones people come to for advice and prayer, representing Christ in all we do. “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15, NIV). Be ready in season and out of season, prepared to act in any capacity, to serve others, and to shine Christ’s light wherever you go. “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction” (2 Timothy 4:2, NIV).

Let us enter this new year with a heart aligned with God’s will and ready to embrace the opportunities He places before us.
