The Evergreen Tree – A Reminder of Jesus’ Love
Encouragement from the Evergreen Tree
The evergreen Christmas tree has become a beloved symbol of the season, but its enduring beauty can also remind us of Jesus' unchanging love, His gift of eternal life, His sacrificial death, and His glorious resurrection. The tree’s constant greenery, even in the harshest winters, points us to the everlasting life we have in Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25, NIV). Just as the evergreen tree stands firm and full of life in the coldest and darkest days, so does Jesus' love remain steadfast and life-giving through every season of our lives.
The triangular shape of the Christmas tree can also remind us of the Trinity—God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit—working together to bring salvation to the world. As the tree reaches upward, we are reminded to lift our hearts in worship and gratitude for the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, which gives us eternal hope.
How the Evergreen Reflects Jesus
Life that Never Ends:
The evergreen tree represents the eternal life that Jesus offers to those who believe in Him. “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son” (1 John 5:11, NIV).
Sacrificial Love:
The tree is a reminder of the cross where Jesus gave His life for our sins. Just as we decorate the tree, Jesus bore the weight of the world’s sin so that we might be redeemed. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23, NKJV).
Unchanging Love:
Like the evergreen, Jesus’ love for us never fades. It remains steadfast through every season. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8, ESV).
Victory Over Death:
The evergreen’s enduring presence reminds us of Christ’s triumph over death and His promise of resurrection. “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:55, NIV).
