Strength in Weakness
“Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’” — Joel 3:10 (KJV)
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” — Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
Life often presents situations where we feel helpless, weak, or afraid. Yet, as followers of Christ, we have been given promises that assure us of God’s strength when we feel powerless. One of the most profound assurances is that we don’t need to be afraid or uncertain, for God’s strength is perfected in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV). In the moments we feel the most vulnerable, God invites us to lean on Him and trust that His power will work through us.
I recently experienced a powerful example of this truth. My family—including cousins, my two daughters, and my grandchildren—had planned a fun-filled two-day trip to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. We had tickets ready and even arranged for a hotel stay. However, things took an unexpected turn. My daughter called me in a panic, explaining they were delayed at the airport, stuck in a long line for luggage checks, and that boarding had already begun.
At that moment, I felt anxiety creeping in. But I knew Jesus calls us to live by faith, not fear. So, I stepped out onto the patio and prayed earnestly: “Daddy God, I need Your strength to stay out of fear. I ask You to keep me aligned with Your will. In Jesus’ name, help me keep my thoughts and words in agreement with Your promises, and if necessary, hold that plane until my daughter and her husband are safely on board.”
Moments later, I received a text—my daughter and her husband had boarded, but the plane had unexpectedly shut down. In my heart, I felt God’s assurance. I could see how God had intervened, holding the plane so they could make it. I prayed once more, commanding in Jesus’ name that the issue would be resolved, and that they would take off safely. Not long after, the plane was in the air, and they were on their way.
Some may say these events were mere coincidences, but I know better. When we depend on God and align our hearts with His promises, He works powerfully on our behalf. This experience reminded me that God is faithful to hear our prayers, especially when we’re leaning on His strength in moments of weakness.
As you go through your day, remember that God’s strength is always available to you. Whenever fear or uncertainty arises, take a moment to pray and declare His promises over your life. In doing so, you will experience His power at work, guiding you in every situation
