I Can Have "It" If I Really Want It!
A couple of days ago, while getting dressed, I whispered a quick prayer: “Lord, help me to lose weight.” Almost immediately, the Holy Spirit nudged me with a thought: “You can be thin if you really want it.”
Wow! It was such a simple, yet powerful realization. According to Mark 11:23 ESV, we can speak to any mountain in our life, telling it to move, and it will move—if we believe and don’t doubt. The verse says, "Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him."
My husband and I eat out a lot, and with so many food choices, I would often tell myself, “I’ll just have a little bit,” or “These chips in moderation won’t hurt.” But the pattern continued, and I found myself praying the same prayer every day, “Lord, help me lose weight,” without seeing any real change.
Growing up, my family was always on some kind of diet. We weren't terribly overweight, but we each had those few pounds we wanted to shed. My mom, along with her six siblings, even formed their own Weight Watchers-style group! They met weekly to weigh in and hold each other accountable.
This situation reminded me of a powerful spiritual lesson: How much do we really want God’s promises to come to pass in our lives? Are we willing to resist the devil’s temptations with the shield of faith? Are we committed to wearing the full armor of God and pressing on through daily battles?
In 1 Thessalonians 5:21 NIV we are reminded, “Test all things; hold fast to what is good.” And in Philippians 3:14 NIV, Paul says, Those words "press on" and "hold fast" remind us there will be struggles—but we can overcome.
The story of the Syrophoenician woman in Mark 7:26-30 NIV is a beautiful example of what it looks like to hold on to God's promises. She was determined, persistent, and wouldn’t give up—even when faced with rejection. Jesus was moved by her faith, and her daughter was healed.
Like her, we need to stay committed to God's promises in our lives. We must believe and hold on until we see victory.
I’ll keep you posted on my weight loss journey, but in the meantime, I’m determined to trust God and hold on to His promises—because I know He is faithful!
I Am Statements:
I am determined to walk in God’s promises for my life.
I am a victor, not a victim, over the struggles I face.
I am pressing on toward the goal, no matter the obstacles.
I am full of faith, believing that God will move mountains for me.
