Galatians 6:9 (Bible Gateway) “And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.”
We must practice having a thankful heart for all the previous victories we have experienced because of God’s grace and strength towards us. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
Instead of complaining, the Bible instructs us to be thankful in every situation, recognizing that gratitude aligns us with God's will and keeps our focus on His blessings or the victory we are seeking.
Exodus 16:8 (NIV) "Moses also said, 'You will know that it was the Lord when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we? You are not grumbling against us, but against the Lord.” This demonstrates that even though the Isrealites had their every need provided by God, they still murmured against Him like spoiled children who are never satisfied. They covet what others had and wanted more. Moses reminded them that their complaints were ultimately against God.
1 Corinthians 10:10 (NIV) warns of the consequences of griping. "And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel."
Paul warns the Corinthians by referencing the Israelites' grumbling in the wilderness, which led to severe consequences. This serves as a reminder that complaining can lead to negative outcomes, both spiritually and practically.
Ephesians 4:29 (NIV) promises that rewards will be ours if we only speak of God’s overcoming goodness. "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." This verse encourages us to speak words that build up and encourage others, rather than grumbling or complaining, which can bring others down and spread negativity.
The Bible encourages believers to avoid grumbling and complaining, emphasizing the importance of gratitude, trust in God’s provision, and the consequences of a negative attitude. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, we are called to speak positively, give thanks in all circumstances, and trust that God is in control, providing for our needs and guiding us through challenges.
