Expressing God's Love Through Gratitude and Encouragement
One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to express God’s love is through appreciation and encouragement. Often, we desire to share our faith and let others know how wonderful it is to be God’s child, but we may not know where to start. A great place to begin is by recognizing and appreciating the good in others, especially when they serve us well.
A Heart of Gratitude in Everyday Moments
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (1 Thessalonians 5:18, ESV)

brighten someone’s day and reflect the love of Christ. Recently, I experienced this firsthand when I accidentally locked my keys and phone in my car. A young woman, who was gathering shopping carts outside Albertsons, noticed my predicament and offered her phone so I could call my husband, who then contacted the Auto Club. She stayed with me for a while, offering companionship as I waited. Before she left, I told her how awesome she was and how much I appreciated her kindness.
When the Auto Club representative arrived promptly and unlocked my car in just a couple of minutes, I made sure to tell him, "You’re my hero for the day!" These small acknowledgments not only encourage others but also create an atmosphere of gratitude and joy.
Praising God in All Situations
"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name." (Hebrews 13:15, NIV)
Instead of letting frustration take over while I waited, I decided to use the time to praise God, knowing that He is always working for my good. The Bible instructs us to praise Him in all circumstances because He is our source of victory when we walk in unwavering faith.
James, the half-brother of Jesus, warns us about the dangers of doubt:
"But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord." (James 1:6-7, NIV)
Praising God in every situation strengthens our faith and frustrates the enemy, who wants nothing more than to see us discouraged.
Encouraging Others in the Workplace
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." (Colossians 3:23, ESV)
Whether in our workplace or in everyday encounters, we should express gratitude for those who work diligently. If a coworker lightens the workload for the team, let them know how much their efforts are valued. Acknowledging good work not only builds morale but also reflects the love of Christ in practical ways.
Conversely, there are times when we encounter individuals who neglect their responsibilities, causing others to carry an unfair burden. In such cases, we may need to address the situation. If someone’s actions create harm or hinder efficiency, we must be led by the Holy Spirit in how to respond—whether through gentle confrontation or involving management when necessary.
Compassion in Difficult Situations
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." (Ephesians 4:2, NIV)
If someone serves us with a poor attitude, rather than reacting negatively, we can ask, "Are you having a rough day?" This simple question can open the door for compassion and even an opportunity to pray for them. Sometimes, people just need to know someone cares.
However, if a person's lack of diligence or professionalism causes harm or injustice, it is appropriate to seek guidance on how to address the situation. The Holy Spirit will lead us in knowing whether to show grace, speak correction, or escalate the matter to the proper authority.
Living Out Our Faith Through Appreciation and Action
"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16, NIV)
By actively appreciating others, offering encouragement, and handling conflicts with wisdom and love, we become living testimonies of Christ's love. Let’s be intentional in recognizing the good around us, praising God in all things, and allowing His Spirit to guide our actions.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the people You place in our lives each day. Help us to show Your love through gratitude, encouragement, and wisdom in our interactions. Let us be sensitive to the needs of others and be bold in praising You in all circumstances. May our actions reflect Your goodness and draw others closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
