Expecting God's Promises with a Grateful Heart
2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
Hebrews 10:23 NLT, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”
Psalm 145:13 NIV, “The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.”
God has given us numerous promises in His Word—promises of provision, healing, victory, and protection. These promises are not just wishful thinking; they are
guaranteed by the faithfulness of God Himself. As believers, we have the privilege and responsibility to demand these promises with confidence because we know God will fulfill them. This demand is not from a place of entitlement, but from a heart of faith and expectation that trusts God completely.
When we place a demand on the promises of God, we are aligning our faith with what God has already declared to be true. The Bible says that “all the promises of God are ‘Yes’ in Christ” 2 Corinthians 1:20, meaning that God has already agreed to fulfill every promise He has made through Jesus. Our role is to believe, to speak our “Amen,” and to expect the fulfillment of these promises with a grateful heart.
Demanding God's Promises in Faith
Demanding God's promises isn’t about making demands on God in a disrespectful way. Instead, it is about confidently standing on the truth of His Word and expecting Him to be faithful to what He has promised.
For example, when we need healing, we don't have to beg for it as though it might not happen. We can place a demand on the promise in Isaiah 53:5 NKJV, which says, “By His stripes we are healed.” We can confidently expect healing because it has already been purchased for us by Jesus. Our demand is grounded in faith, not doubt.
Jesus tells us in Mark 11:24 NIV, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” This kind of faith demands God’s promises because it knows that God is both willing and able to keep His Word. When we pray with faith, we can boldly expect to see God move in our lives.
Expecting God's Faithfulness with Gratitude
Expectation and gratitude go hand in hand. When we expect God to fulfill His promises, we do so with a grateful heart, not just because we know God will provide, but because we trust in His nature. He is good, loving, and faithful in all His ways.
A grateful heart recognizes that every promise God makes is a gift of grace. We don’t deserve His promises, but because of His love for us, He freely gives them. Psalm 145:13 KJV reminds us that “the Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.” This knowledge should fill us with gratitude as we wait expectantly for His promises to be fulfilled.
When we demand God’s promises, we don’t do so in pride, but in humble gratitude for who God is and what He has done. This attitude of thankfulness not only pleases God but also strengthens our faith. Gratitude reminds us of God's past faithfulness, building our confidence for future fulfillment.
Living in the Fulfillment of God's Promises
Know the Promises
To demand God’s promises, we must first know what they are. God’s Word is filled with promises, from His promise of salvation to His promises of provision, healing, and peace. Make it a habit to study and meditate on these promises, letting them fill your heart and mind.Pray with Expectation
When you pray, don’t approach God timidly. Pray with the expectation that He will fulfill His promises. Hebrews 10:23 KJV says, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” This means we should pray with boldness and confidence, knowing that God is faithful.Thank God in Advance
Gratitude is key to living in the fulfillment of God’s promises. Before you even see the promise manifest, thank God in advance for what He is about to do. This is an act of faith that shows you trust Him completely.Walk in the Promises
Once God’s promises begin to manifest in your life, walk in them! Live out the victory, peace, and joy that come with His fulfilled promises. Testify to His goodness and continue to expect even greater things.
