Don’t Let Religious Authorities Talk You Out of God’s Promises

God’s Word is filled with promises, and each one is meant for us. As followers of Christ, we must be vigilant to hold onto these promises because there is an enemy at work whose mission is to steal them from us. The Bible says in John 10:10 NIV that “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” One of the ways this thief operates is by making us question whether God truly desires what’s good for us, often through people we respect—even religious authorities.

Jesus gave us the parable of the sower in Luke 8:5-15 AMP, where seeds were sown, but not all grew. Some seeds were trampled, some were eaten by birds, and some withered because they lacked moisture. The seed

that fell on good soil, however, produced a crop. The seeds represent God’s promises, and the soil represents the condition of our hearts. The enemy will do anything to convince us that God's promises aren't for us, causing doubt and confusion, especially if we aren’t deeply rooted in His Word.

In my personal experience, I faced such an attack when I was praying for a child. After ten years of marriage, I longed to be a mother, and I went to a well-known pastor's wife, hoping for her to stand in agreement with me in prayer. Instead, she told me, “Maybe it isn’t God’s will for you to have children.” Imagine how crushing those words could have been. But because I had my own personal relationship with my Heavenly Father, I immediately knew she was wrong. I knew deep in my spirit that this wasn’t true.

You see, God created the process of reproduction; He gave the command to "be fruitful and multiply" in Genesis. I wasn’t excluded from that plan. Too many times, people accept less than what God intends because a spiritual authority or religious leader says something contrary to the promises of Scripture.

This is a serious issue in the church today. Many believers are talked out of their blessings because of someone else's limited understanding. Instead of standing on God’s Word, they settle for less. How many people have forfeited God’s best because they were told, “Maybe that’s not for you,” or “It might not be God’s will”?

Jesus made it clear in Matthew 9:29, “According to your faith be it unto you.” You are living out your faith every day. The question is, are you believing in what God has promised or what others have told you is possible? When you have faith in the truth of God’s Word, no one can talk you out of your blessings.

As believers, we need to know what God has promised us in His Word. The Bible is the ultimate authority, not people—even if they are pastors, teachers, or spiritual leaders. God’s promises apply to every one of His children. Don’t ever settle for less than what the Scriptures promise you, even if someone with religious authority tries to tell you otherwise.

The Bible tells us that we are co-heirs with Christ Romans 8:17 KJV. We have access to every spiritual blessing in heavenly places Ephesians 1:3 NIV. God does not withhold good from His children Psalm 84:11 KJV. These are promises that you can stand on. Hold fast to the truth of Scripture, not the opinions of man. Keep your faith rooted in what God says, and don’t allow anything or anyone to steal what He has in store for you.

Declarations

  1. All of God's promises are mine as I walk in faith and believe they are meant for me.

  2. I will diligently seek God by studying His Word, praying, and engaging in encouraging fellowship with other believers.

  3. I will not be swayed by outside voices but will stand firm in the truth of God's Word.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the promises You’ve given us in Your Word. Help me to hold fast to them and not allow anyone to talk me out of the blessings You’ve intended for me. Strengthen my faith so that I will believe in Your goodness and stand on Your truth, no matter what others say. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
