Be a Diligent Worker

The Bible tells us that when we seek the Guidance of the Holy Spirit trusting him to good business deals and occupations where we can advance. This is God’s will for us to prosper and be in health. However, there is no room for being lazy. There are so many Bible verses that warn us about what happens to the “lazy hands”. When we study the Bible, we see the work that must be done in order to be a great example for Daddy God’s kingdom. We dress in his armor of truth, salvation, righteousness, sword of the spirit, peace, and faith. Every spiritual expectation requires something for us to do. We do enter His rest, and must take one day a week to simply rest, but we have things to do for the other six days.

Proverbs 10:4 (NIV)

"Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth."

Proverbs 12:24 (NLT)

"Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave."

Proverbs 13:4 (NIV)

"A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied."

Proverbs 21:5 (NIV)

"The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty."

There are also multiple warnings towards the “sluggard.” The definition of a sluggard is “a person who is lazy, lacks motivation, or is slow to act, especially when action is necessary.

Proverbs 6:6-11 (NIV)

"Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?"

Ecclesiastes 10:18 (NIV)

"Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks."
Neglect and laziness lead to destruction and decay, both physically and spiritually.

There are steps we can take to avoid being lazy.

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters..."

Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

We can do the following:

Study: Grow in truth and wisdom to serve God effectively (2 Timothy 2:15).
Be Diligent: Faithful work leads to reward, growth, and leadership.
Avoid Laziness: It leads to missed opportunities, dissatisfaction, and even destruction.
Work for God: Every task is an opportunity to glorify Him with your best effort.
